Coaching an U7 7-a-side team I am enthusiastically supportive of the 4x4 ideal.
However, I do find it difficult when you have a couple of kids who are far more advanced than the others. In my case we have a lad with a kick like a mule, and who will shoot - because he can score - from anywhere.
This has the effect of making games rather one-sided. It is only by introducing more players, and thus crowding the pitch that this advantage is diminished.
Anyone with any ideas on how to handle this in a 4x4 game?
I would have a shooting area 10 yards from the goal and only allow players to shoot from their or load the side 4v3 or 5v4 so that the very good player has more of a challenge
